Which do you choose...Discipline or Inspiration?
Dear Friend,
What is the difference, and the big deal, for that matter, between Discipline and Inspiration?
To answer this let's dive into the areas of your life in which you are, or are not disciplined... and don't worry, no one else will hear your responses!
Take a moment to answer the following two questions: (and by-the-way, do not and I repeat do not read any further if you are not going to actually take a few moments to answer the next two questions! And yes, it will mean taking out a pen or pencil and actually writing... it will actually take some discipline to do this!)
1. When are you disciplined? (For example at work, in your job, with your finances and spending habits, with what you eat, for example avoiding milk products, or simple carbohydrates and white flour, vacuuming, etc.)
2. What areas of your life would you like to be disciplined in and with what specific tasks?
Next, take a few moments to answer the following two questions:
1. Who inspires you or what are you inspired by?
(For example, I am inspired by movies that expand my mind about what we can accomplish beyond what we think is possible. I am inspired by Bill Clinton, Dr. Wayne Dyer, my mentors, my good friend who is doing some leading edge research in Sweden, my clients who practice the techniques that we discuss and who experience great things as a result, etc.)
2. Why?
(Because movies allow me to imagine what could be, to think outside of the boxes I have created. I am inspired by my clients because of their willingness and openness to try new things, even though some of the ideas that we discuss at first seem a little unorthodox and unconventional.)
Now, take a moment to consider how you felt when you were answering the first two questions about discipline... and how you felt when you were answering the second two questions about inspiration?
When I thought about discipline, I was tight, felt heavy, and limited.
When I answered the questions about inspiration on other hand, I felt more relaxed, lighter, and freer when I was considering who inspires me.
Does this tell you anything?!!!
The difference between these lies in your...
PASSIONS and ultimately your DESIRES!
Discipline is run by what we think we should do, must do, have to do, and ought to do. These all come from what we were taught by our parents growing up, preached about from our churches, synagogues and temples, and subliminally hypnotized into believing from current news, media, and other sources.
Inspiration, on the other hand, comes from your truest desires, your passions. And your true desires and passions come from your soul, which is not something you can program, for it already IS. If you read the last e-zine, you'll know that your calling comes from your purpose, which comes from the deepest part of you.
Which is why the saying goes...
it is so easy when you want to and so hard when you have to!
What if you could feel inspired more often, doing what you are passionate about rather than doing what you should or have to do?
What if you could begin to look at what you are disciplined to do from a new angle, finding your inspiration that is driving your disciplines?!
Over the next couple of weeks, decide whether you want to live with discipline, making choices because of what you have learned, been taught and think you should do, or whether perhaps it is time to begin living from a place of inspiration.
Today, how could you live from this place of inspiration?
What WILL you do today that will inspire YOU and others?
No matter what you choose, BE-Inspired by your choice.
Until next time, have a great week and Be-Inspired!
Warmly,
Joshua
